Gear & Tone Atlas
VerifiedThe instruments, pedals, amplifiers, and signal chain that shape the sound of Muddy Waters.
What defines the sound
Waters took the acoustic slide style of the Mississippi Delta and amplified it. He played a Fender Telecaster, often with a slide, through a loud valve amp pushed to the edge of breakup. The result was a gritty, powerful tone that, with a full band, became the blueprint for Chicago blues and a direct influence on rock and roll.
